The hip, of course, is where the thigh bone meets the pelvis to form a ball-and-socket joint and is one of the human body’s largest weight-bearing joints.
In this course, you will gain a deep understanding of the anatomy of the hip joint – its articulating surfaces, ligaments and neurovascular supply. In particular, you will learn about the structures of the hip joint, the ligaments of the hip joint and how they act to increase stability. As well, you will analyse the neurovascular arterial supply to the hip joint via the medial and lateral circumflex femoral arteries, and the critical stabilising factors. Obviously, the primary function of the hip joint is to weight-bear and the course will examine all the factors that act to increase stability of the joint.
